Floyd County, Virginia is full of activities to suit every interest. A unique fact about Floyd is that most of the businesses in the area are farms that have created breweries, distilleries, and wineries. Most of these businesses are inspired by the prohibition era and contain unique historical factors that remain the same. Listed below are some of the most popular speakeasies in the area!

5 Mile Mountain Distillery

The 5 Mile Mountain Distillery dates back to the prohibition and continues to be Floyd’s first distillery since. Known for creating large amounts of moonshine during the prohibition, they attracted people from all over town seeking this valuable possession.

The building that it resides in was built shortly after World War II for facilitating clean water, but then was purchased in 2013 and turned into a distillery. The distillery’s beautiful architecture and history remains the same to this day. Stop by and enjoy spirit flight tastings and handcrafted cocktails while enjoying the beautiful mountain views.

Lush Lounge

Lush Lounge is a unique speakeasy also inspired by the prohibition era. It opened on the 100th year anniversary of the prohibition and has a discreet entrance that opens to a poker room bar. This lounge not only has a bar, but also a silent movie screening room and a traveling carnival-themed room. They have hand-crafted cocktails and unique dining selections relevant to the 1920s.

Buffalo Mounting Brewing Company

The idea of Buffalo Mountain Brewing Company came about in 2012 and was officially put into place in April 2018. This brewery creates small-batch beers on the premises in a 2BBL brewhouse. This brewery is a tribute to the Scottish and Irish Heritage that was a part of founding this bar. Visitors are encouraged to partake in the craft beer on tap and enjoy the tavern’s old-world atmosphere and charm.
